Gateway Mapping, Inc. has provided GIS support to the Pasco School District on multiple occasions to evaluate school boundaries as a result of the development of new elementary, middle and high schools. This effort included working closely with District staff to understand needs and goals, working within established “Guiding Principles” to identify new school boundaries. GIS was used to analyze the growth potential from development forecasted within the district and existing students, travel time analysis, existing school migration patterns, and multiple specialized student programs such as Two-Way Dual Language, Spectrum, Bi-lingual Spanish and bi-Lingual Russian programs. Multiple alternatives were developed and issues fully vetted with the Boundary Committee and through public meetings and public surveys to address as many issues as possible. Phasing of the recommended boundary changes were developed to coincide with the opening of each school.
