The City of Jerome, Idaho, selected us to update their comprehensive plan, a 10–20-year strategy that guides land use and development with community input. The planning process considered past and present conditions, trends, and future goals and we employed a variety of public outreach techniques including web-based surveys. We analyzed data on demographics, housing, infrastructure, natural resources, employment, education, transportation, and community health. Our land use analyses within the city and impact area identified development opportunities and limitations. To assess healthy food availability for lower-income residents, we conducted a food desert analysis, identifying walkable zones (via actual routes) within 0.6 miles from residential areas to grocery stores and comparing this to demographic data on poverty and vehicle ownership.
