We designed and implemented a comprehensive, automated system for Brigham Young University’s (BYU) Physical Facilities & Engineering Department to streamline the collection, processing, and management of stormwater infrastructure data. Developed as a contracted solution, this system integrates advanced technologies, including Python scripting, service automation, and Esri Enterprise GIS, to enhance data accuracy, workflow efficiency, and long-term usability.
Key components of the system include:
- Automated Data Processing & Integration – Python scripting and service automation handle data movement, content updates, and seamless integration into BYU’s Esri Enterprise GIS
- Standardized Field Data Collection – A structured workflow guides staff in capturing survey data, photographs, and key system attributes using specialized equipment
- Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC) – Automated validation checks ensure data integrity, completeness, and reliability throughout the workflow
- GIS Task-Based Workflow Management – Esri GIS task automation provides staff with clear visual tracking of assignments and data processing stages
- Scalability & Workforce Adaptability – Supports up to 10 employees working simultaneously, ensuring continuity despite staff transitions
This solution provides BYU’s Physical Facilities & Engineering Department with a sophisticated, automated system that enhances data integrity, reduces manual effort, and ensures reliable information for infrastructure planning, analysis, and decision-making.
