County-wide Parcel Mapping
Client: Bingham County, Idaho
Bingham County, Idaho, wanted to create a digital parcel map showing property locations and ownership information within GIS (Geographic Information System) software. Gateway Mapping was selected to do the mapping of 35,000 parcels county-wide. The project involved taking plat maps and converting them into a GIS format using COGO (coordinate geometry). Existing digital parcels were cleaned-up and incorporated into the GIS. After the parcel mapping was complete, the full ownership database maintained by the county assessor was attached to the parcel layer so that such information could be accessed directly from the GIS map.
- 35,000+ individual ownership parcels are now mapped in a digital format, entered using COGO.
- The parcel map is available to all county employees via free GIS Viewing software. They can select a parcel on the map, find out who owns it—parcel and owner address, and its assessed value. Photographs of homes and other structures can be linked to the parcel map
- County Staff is trained to manage the parcel layer and a process is in place for keeping it current.
